Insomnia during pregnancy?

Hello fellow moms just a quick question here. Did any of you suffer from insomnia in late pregnancy? I'm 30 weeks pregnant and I cannot sleep to save my life. I am tired as all get out but I cannot get comfortable. As soon as I get comfortable I have to pee, then after I pee I'm thirsty, and then I need a snack etc. It also feels like my brain refuses to shut down. I am constantly thinking of a million different things at once. I cannot continue to sleep only 3-4 hours a night because I go to school and work full time as well. I am at my wits end! Do you guys have any suggestions for this? Thanks for the input.
EDIT: If I drank warm milk I'd puke everywhere, I hate milk! I have a pregnancy pillow but I also have arthritis and two discs out of place so this extra weight makes every position uncomfortable. I will try sleeping in the recliner tonight though, that sounds comfy =)

Then you spend all day tired.. I have no cure for you but you sure have my sympathy!
* Be sure to avoid caffeine late in the day
* Use a body pillow for nighttime comfort
* Try a cup of milk (an old wives' tale yes but it can work!)
* Eat foods that contain tryptophan, magnesium and/or melatonin (all known to induce sleep), examples include potatoes, turkey, almonds, oatmeal, cheese, fish, eggs, honey and bananas
* Some mothers sleep better upright (as in using a recliner)
* Try using a warm rice sock or hot water bottle (or an ice pack) for back or hip pains

Oh and if you have a clock pointed at the bed.. move it! staring at the clock just pisses me off when I can't sleep and I stay awake thinking about how little sleep I'm getting! lol

Insomnia... what do you do for it that works for you? No medications please, just natural stuff.?

I am moderately active. I have two kids, so I chase the small one around. I eat healthier than most with some junk food. I do not have any major health issues. However: I tend to think too much at night and can't stop. I used to worry a lot, but I managed to relax, but now I just think about random stuff and cannot fall asleep. Sometimes it is the to do list for the next day while other times it is silly stuff like what color sheets to buy next pay check or what my dream home would look like.

Okay, this is something I read from an Indian Dr. and it does actually work, and it is easy to do.. only two steps. When you lay down, announce to yourself (out loud or in your mind) "I am sleeping" Then after your little announcement, just picture in your mind a black clear night sky filled with stars and allow your senses to feel pulled forward into it. If your mind goes to worries or in any way wanders, say in your mind "Be quiet, I am sleeping". And return to the starfield. Amazing stuff... you'll be asleep in no time and really great dreams too.

I have major insomnia at night, what can I do?

I stay away from caffeine and food, etc. Stuff that would keep me away, etc. But lately, since I have been on vacation, I can't sleep. I usually find myself asleep at 2 instead of my usual 10 pm, and I wake at 5, instead of 6:30. What is causing my lack of sleep?

i know what you're going through. a lot of times at night i am "tired" and want to go to sleep, but i'm not "sleepy" if you catch the difference.

this is especially true when i travel. as for the reason, i believe it is simply being in an unfamiliar environment which causes you to subconsciously not feel safe or comfortable enough to got to seep easily. it could also be that you are in a different time zone (same as jet lag) and it takes a few days for your body to reacclimate to the difference as sunlight plays a vital role in telling your body when it is supposed to feel sleepy.

my mother is a pharmacist and told me to use melatonin supplements any time i need to regulate my sleeping patterns, and it WORKS. melatonin is a substance produced by all lving creatures that regulates their daily sleep-wake cycles. in laymen's terms, melatonin is what is responsible for making you feel sleepy...you take the supplement, you feel sleepy, you sleep...period.

you don't need to use it daily like some meds, so dependence is not a factor. just take the recommended dose about a half hour before you want to go to sleep whenever you're having trouble getting to sleep be it from travel or the change in sleep patterns from weekend to work week, or stress. i often have to take some the night before an exam because i'm so stressed out i can't sleep.

you can also take it a couple nights in a row at the same time of night. doing this will change your sleep cycle so that your body feels sleepy around the same time you've been taking the melatonin the previous nights. so you can use it to simply go to sleep one night when you prefer to, or you can use it a couple days in a row to more quickly develop new sleeping patterns that your body will get used to on its own.

it's non-prescription and found in the supplements/vitamins section. it will work and it's safe. it doesn't interact with anything else (your own body produces it after all). ask a pharmacist about it...surely there's a Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, or Eckerds or something wherever you're vacationing.

Insomnia!!!?

From time to time i get insomnia, where i can't get to sleep for the whole night and my eyes will water continously, thus disturbing my sleep even further.
Last night this happened to me, causing me to have a HUGE banging headache when i woke up.
I would really like to know why i get this from time to time? I'm 15 years old if this helps.

You're pretty young, I'd suggest talking to a parent and visit your doctor to find the root of your issue.

Try to correct it now so that it will not affect the rest of your life if that's possible!

Try to relax and shut your mind off, that is the main problem I have when I can't sleep, I'm thinking too much. One other thing can be if you nap at all during the day, fight it and you should have a better chance to sleep at night!
